Alternative data refers to non-traditional data sources that can be used for stock analysis. Alternative data includes things like social media trends and web traffic data (and not anything that can be found on an income statement or balance sheet).
Over the last decade, alternative data has exploded in popularity among hedge funds and Wall Street trading firms. Professional investors spent almost $2B on alternative data in 2020. This data allows them to find unique insights on stocks, and gain an information edge over the rest of the market.
However, alternative data is still almost completely inaccessible to non-professional investors. Most providers charge thousands of dollars a year for access to their services, and in many cases only sell to institutional clients.
We created this site to level the playing field between retail investors and Wall Street, by providing high-quality alternative data on a free, easy-to-use platform.
