In a reminiscent reference to Bill Gates' 1995 memo, where he termed the internet as a business "tidal wave", Microsoft's (MSFT) CEO, Satya Nadella, has now placed artificial intelligence (AI) on a similar transformative pedestal. He expressed this sentiment on "The Circuit With Emily Chang", indicating AI's potential to reshape the business landscape, much like the internet did in the 90s.

Central to Microsoft's AI vision is its collaboration with OpenAI Inc., a cutting-edge startup that has earned significant attention in the tech industry, resulting in a $13 billion commitment from Microsoft. Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, underscored the uniqueness of this partnership, marking it as a rare instance of successful collaboration between major tech giants. Nevertheless, this union has its detractors. Elon Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, has been openly critical, suggesting that OpenAI is now essentially under Microsoft's control.

Reacting to Musk's skepticism and potential acquisition speculations, Altman firmly stated that OpenAI is not for sale. The competitive dynamic in AI, with players like Google (GOOGL) in the arena, has been likened to the early days of internet browsers, where Microsoft's Internet Explorer overtook Netscape. Despite the promising early lead Microsoft and OpenAI seem to have, Altman acknowledged the uncertainties and fierce competition in the AI domain.

Nadella, while acknowledging the hype around AI, emphasized the tech industry's propensity to overstate every innovation. He expressed a vision of harnessing AI's potential for broader accessibility and democratization, rather than just tech dominance.
